About RuChitra

RuChitra is a collection of art with soul, by Ruchi, an artist based in Singapore. Ruchi is a Singapore based artist, with no formal training. From doodling and sketching on her own, Ruchi’s love for art found it’s expression under the guidance of her ‘guru’ Indyra Asmanu in Jakarta in a hobby class which helped her discover her passion. A social worker by training, Ruchi was intrigued by human emotions and felt strongly about women’s issues, a reflection of which can be seen in her works through her emphasis on realism. In her paintings, the eyes are a window to the soul and the feminine form shows grace and strength instead of helplessness and subservience. Ruchi enjoys working with various media including oils, acrylics, charcoal and soft pastels; incorporating a mainly monochromatic palette. Since she embarked upon her journey as an artist, Ruchi has had the privilege of living in Jakarta, Ho Chi Minh City and Singapore. Her time in South East Asia has exposed her to a range of genres and styles- from Indonesian Batik to Vietnamese lacquer paintings. Not only have the various styles of art helped develop her style, but the opportunity of meeting different artists in the region helped widen her perspective on the role of art as a mirror of our own beliefs, thoughts and emotions.
